Daughn Gibson got his start as the drummer for stoner rockers Pearls and Brass. Last year, Gibson went solo, releasing a road-weary record All Hell, which caught the attention of not only bloggers but boutique indie label Sub Pop. Gibson, a former truck driver and all around blue collar guy, followed up All Hell with this year’s Me Moan, another collection of country and rock inflected songs all centered around Gibson’s deep gravely voice. “The Sound of Law”, the opener from Me Moan, is a dark sermon doused in whiskey that has an inescapable sense of urgency thanks to the band behind him.

Daughn Gibson plays tonight with Hiss Golden Messenger at the Black Cat. Tickets are $12-15.
