Russ Ptacek, the WUSA reporter D.C. needs but doesn’t deserve, is well-known for his work exposing dirty conditions in restaurant kitchens.
Last week, Ptacek reported that ZZ Pizza in Mt. Rainer, Md. was cited by the health department for “rat droppings by the back door,” as well as “dead and live cockroaches.”:
When WUSA9 visited, we spotted one large dead cockroach in the lobby area, but our look inside the kitchen didn’t find any additional roaches or any rodent droppings.
ZZ Pizza’s owner Mohammed Jahangir was not happy with the coverage. In a YouTube video (tweeted out by Ptacek), Jahagir said he believes the only way a roach could get into his restaurant is if it was planted by Ptacek or if it flew in through the front door.
Jahangir said Ptacek was “purposely trying to hurt my business, my livelihood,” and challenged the reporter to come to his kitchen and look for roaches. If roaches are found, Jahangir said he would quit the business.
On Facebook, Ptacek said, “My response is that I want to give this guy the chance to prove he’s really cleaned up. Of course, I don’t plant things.”
