ART/THEATER: Part theater, part art installation, part interactive puzzle-solving experience, The Time Machine: A Scientific Romance intrigues us at Union Arts DC (411 New York Avenue NE) tonight through September 1. Presented by a group called the Science Fiction Trope, this experience is manipulated by audience members, who “will determine how everything unfolds through their own actions as they explore the environment and manipulate the objects around them to unlock the laboratory’s secrets.” 7 p.m. first group admitted, 8:20 p.m. last group admitted. $20.

BIRTHDAY: Remember Chuck Brown by celebrating his birthday at the Smithsonian American Art Musem (8th and F Street NW) this evening. “The band Vybe will honor Brown, who is widely credited with developing hallmarks of the go-go style, a music genre rooted in funk and soul that originated in DC.” 5-7 p.m. Free.

JAZZ: Buenos Aires, Argentina-born guitarist Cristian Perez brings together European classical, tango, jazz and other global forms in his music. His quartet will be performing tonight at Twins Jazz (1344 U Street NW). 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $10 plus $10 food and drink minimum. – Sriram Gopal
