Yesterday, DCist recommended not driving in downtown D.C. on this, the actual 50th anniversary of the March on Washington. But how is one supposed to get to the Let Freedom Ring celebration at the Lincoln Memorial?

Metro has released a map with tips for getting around the Mall and recommends using the Foggy Bottom, Farragut West, Farragut North and Archives stations for getting to the Lincoln Memorial. Biking is also an option, with several Capital Bikeshare stations located near the National Mall. But make sure to lock up your bike before you get to the Mall: the two-wheeled transportation devices are prohibited by the National Park Service.

Indeed, if you do manage to get there, make sure you don’t have any of the following items prohibited by the National Park Service.

  • Aerosols
  • Ammunition
  • Animals other than helper/guide dogs
  • Backpacks
  • Bags and signs exceeding size restrictions (8″x6″x4″)
  • Bicycles
  • Balloons
  • Coolers
  • Explosives
  • Firearms
  • Glass or thermal containers
  • Laser pointers
  • Mace / Pepper spray
  • Packages
  • Structures
  • Supports for signs and placards
  • Weapons of any kind
  • President Barack Obama, former Presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter, as well as Caroline Kennedy, Oprah Winfrey, Forest Whitaker and Jamie Foxx, are scheduled to speak at the celebration. If you can’t be there in person, organizers have provided a live stream, which will be turned on at 11 a.m.

Update: You can also watch a live stream, via NBC4, below.
