A joint task force between the D.C. Taxicab Commission and the Metropolitan Police Department conducted a strike on Saturday that resulted in 14 cabs being impounded and 65 being ticketed, according to a release. “Eleven of the 14 vehicles that were impounded were unlicensed vehicles and the other three had non-functioning meters,” the release said. Beginning next month, cabs can also be impounded for not having credit card readers.

The cabs were busted by a six-person unit that patrolled the H Street NE Corridor, the U Street Northwest Corridor and Seventh Street NW near the Chinatown arch.

“The range of infractions included broken meters, unlicensed vehicles and drivers, improperly maintained manifests, lack of proof of insurance and improper dress,” according to a release. What’s improper dress for a cab driver, you ask? “Sandals, shorts, sweat pants, shirt with no collar and/or no outer garment,” according to DCTC public information officer Neville Waters.
