Head’s up for anyone headed eastbound on East Capitol Street for their afternoon commute home: Police took a motorist into custody after he allegedly struck 13 cars and a school bus full of special needs children on the 4200 block of East Capitol Street NE.

Details are scarce, but NBC4, who first reported the incident, says that police were conducting field sobriety tests on the suspect.

A Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson confirms with DCist that the motorist struck 13 cars and a school bus, and that only one medical transport was called in, for a “juvenile on the bus that was struck.” The spokesperson could not comment on the condition of the juvenile’s injuries. Currently, the eastbound side of East Capitol Street around the scene of the accident is shut down, according to MPD.

According to NBC4’s Jackie Benson, drug use is suspected as a cause for the accident.

We’ll update once we know more.
