Eddie Murphy, the comedian and actor, has robbed the movie-going public of their hard-earned dollars in recent years with such critically reviled films as A Thousand Words, Tower Heist, and Meet Dave, but it was a different Eddie Murphy who was arrested yesterday after allegedly robbing a SunTrust Bank near the Navy Yard Metro station.

As first reported by D.C. Crime Stories, the 51-year-old Murphy (who, suspiciously, is only a year younger than the famed Nutty Professor actor), reportedly “walked into bank in the 100 block of M St. SE, shortly after noon Tuesday, and handed a note to a teller announcing a robbery and demanding money,” according to the police report.

According to D.C. Crime Stories, Murphy, who also goes by the nickname “Five Knots” (which, weirdly, was never the name of character actor Eddie Murphy has played…yet), has been a fugitive for more than a year for breaking his probation from a previous bank robbery in Maryland. Again, this all sounds suspiciously like the plot of movie Eddie Murphy—who is known for wearing heavy prosthetic make-up to portray different character—would be in.

An MPD spokesperson confirmed with DCist that “Five Knots” Murphy was arrested three hours later, at 3:45 p.m., and charged with robbery of fear. The spokesperson would not comment on his previous run-ins with the law, which allegedly include numerous arrests for bank robbery and armed robbery.

“Five Knots” Murphy remains locked up, the MPD spokesperson told DCist, while the actor Eddie Murphy currently resides in New York, has recently joined Twitter, is launching his reggae career, and is maybe prepping production for his new film, The Nutty Professor III.

All i’m saying is, has anyone seen the actor Eddie Murphy and the bank robber Eddie Murphy in the same room together?
