Along this line of thought, the Embassy of the Czech Republic (3900 Spring of Freedom Street NW) kicks off its Mutual Inspirations Festival 2013 tonight, in honor of the dissident, playwright, former Czech president and honorary leader of our hearts. Activities tonight include a documentary screening and photography exhibit. Continuing events through Oct. 31. Visit the website for details. 6 p.m. Free, but reservations are required. For reservations, e-mail: reservations@mutualinspirations.org and put “Launch” in the subject line.
FITNESS: Stretching and core-strengthening classes offered for the cost of ZERO BUCKS tonight at Farragut Square Park (Connecticut Avenue and K Street NW). Just bring a mat and that fine, limber body o’ yours. This is the first of a six-week series of drop-in classes that will be held Thursdays through Oct. 10. Tonight you’ve got “traditional Pilates,” taught by instructors from Results Gym—where pretty people work out (and where it also costs a pretty penny to join)—so hop on that. No registration required. But given that this is D.C., you should probably also think about skipping out of work early and/or renting a hovercraft to get a spot. 5:30-6:30 p.m. Free.
GOOD CAUSE: Launch party and happy hour fundraiser for nonprofit The Survivant Organization, which works on “eradicating domestic and sexual violence among females aged 16-24 through research, interactive education, and advocacy,” will be held at Sign of the Whale (1825 M Street NW) from 6-9 p.m.
$5 donation at the door gets you a wristband and then access to food and drink specials. For more information, visit the Facebook invite page.
COMEDY: Good old LYGO DC has a couple things going on tonight. At Old Dominion Brewhouse (1219 9th Street NW), you’ve got Jono Zalay and Jamel Johnson at 6:30 p.m. $15 at the door. And across town at Bier Baron (1523 22nd Street NW), a new comedy series launches with featured performer Sara Armour and headliner Tony Woods. Doors 8:30 p.m. Tickets $15.
