Justin Rodriguez. Local homeless activist Justin Rodriguez has gone missing, according to family and friends.
Rodriguez—who is heavily involved in the Occupy movement and is the founder of Nothing For Us Without Us, a youth-led action group that aims to change systemic issues that perpetuate youth homelessness—went missing last night around 10:30 p.m., and reportedly left a suicide note, according to a blog post by Rodriguez’s “aunt,” Amanda Michelle Jones.
In an email to DCist, Jones, who is isn’t technically Rodriguez’s aunt but is rather part of his chosen family, said he was most recently doing work with Manna, Inc., an affordable homeownership organization in D.C., but they reportedly haven’t seen him in over a week.
According to Jones, Rodriguez has been homeless off and on for about eight years, and it’s something he’s “very passionate about.” Rodriguez, who is 5’10” and 200 pounds with brown eyes and dark brown hair, reportedly sent a disturbing email to friends last night that they interpreted as a suicide note, but it did not specify where he is.
Jones writes that they have several organizations looking for him:
“We have the Black & Missing Foundation involved now; they were able to get MPD to give the case the attention it needs. Occupy is also looking for him, as well as some other friends. He left a rather extensive suicide note, but didn’t indicate where he was, so we still need people to keep a look out.”
If you have any information about Justin’s whereabouts, contact the MPD telephone tip line at (202) 727-9099.
