BEER: The DC Beer Festival’s fall edition comes to Nationals Park (1500 South Capitol St SE) with over 70 breweries and hundreds of beers represented. “In addition to craft breweries, the DC Beer Festival will be unique with an emphasis on local breweries including 3 Star, Capital City, Chocolate City, Oliver Ales, Raven Beer, DC Brau, Lost Rhino, Mad Fox, and Flying Dog among others.” Live music and games will also be on tap. $40 ticket includes unlimited sampling but no food. Friday from 7-10 p.m., Saturday from 1-4 p.m. and Saturday from 6-9 p.m.
OUTDOOR MOVIE: Outdoor movie night in Lamont Park (3258 Mt. Pleasant Street NW) kicks off with Raiders of the Lost Ark. “Food and drink specials available from local businesses, including specials from Radius Pizza (calzones, pizza & popcorn), and the Fojol bBros. of Merlindia food truck!” Free. 7:15-9:30 p.m.
ROAR: The National Zoo (3001 Connecticut Avenue NW) hosts its Rock-N-Roar concert, which features an acoustic performance by O.A.R.’s Marc Roberge and Richard On. “Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or low-seated lawn/beach chairs for seating. Beer from New Belgium Brewing will be available for purchase. Food, non-alcoholic beverages, and wine will also be available.” General admission tickets $45 for FONZ members, $55 for non-members. Gates open at 6 p.m., show at 7 p.m.
JAZZ: Bassist Christian McBride’s composition, The Movement Revisited, is a four-part suite dedicated to four key figures of the Civil Rights Movement: Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. McBride and his big band will be performing an updated version of the piece at the University of Maryland’s Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center (3800 Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, College Park, Md.) on Friday. The program features spoken word interludes and a featured guest will be legendary performer and outspoken civil rights activist Harry Belafonte. 8 p.m. Tickets $10 to $40. —Sriram Gopal
SATURDAY
JAZZ: This is the Saturday after Labor Day, which means that Silver Spring and Rosslyn offer their dueling festivals for folks on either side of the Potomac. Rosslyn’s event runs from 1 to 7 p.m. in Gateway Park and features local trumpeter Kenny Rittenhouse, headliner Poncho Sanchez and other acts. The Maryland show features headliner Branford Marsalis, runs from 4:30 to 10 p.m and takes place on Veterans Plaza at Fenton Street and Ellsworth Drive in downtown Silver Spring. Free. —Sriram Gopal
BEER: The World Series of Flip Cup, which benefits the Maryland chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, will be held at Old Dominion Brewhouse (1219 9th Street NW). “Teams will consist of a minimum of 6 players (plus up to 2 substitutes), and each match will be played as a best of seven series. Teams will be divided into pools and face off against one another. The top seeds from each pool will advance to single elimination bracket play for the chance to win our 1st and 2nd place prizes!” Registration is $40 and comes with an open bar. Check-in at 1 p.m. game at 2 p.m.
EXPO: The Fifth Green Living Expo, “a free community event connecting you to green technology, healthy food, local artisans, eco-friendly exhibitors, speakers, and live music,” will be held on the University of the District of Columbia’s Dennard Plaza (4200 Connecticut Avenue NW). Free. 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
SUNDAY
FESTIVAL: Adams Morgan Day, held on 18th Street NW between Florida Avenue and Columbia Road, will once again feature local artists, nonprofits, food and 60 live performances on six different stages. Free. Noon to 7 p.m.
FOOD & DRINK: Celebrate the end of summer at Jackson 20 (480 King Street, Alexandria, Va.) with their Bounty of the Bay party. “The event will be held in the restaurant’s picturesque courtyard, and will feature a spread of local summer favorites, like Chesapeake crabs with Old Bay seasoning, stuffed and shucked oysters, fried clams with tartar sauce, fried green tomatoes, red potatoes, summer corn and cole slaw.” Tickets $45 through City Eats. 6-8 p.m.
