After the tragic death of the 9:30 Club’s beloved manager/crew chief/public figure Josh Burdette last week, a scholarship fund is being set up in his memory.

Burdette graduated with a psychology degree from the University of Maryland, and often spoke of how he used his college education everyday at his job at the famed V Street venue. “I study people,” he told Washingtonian back in 2009, “I’m very good at seeing a problem before it becomes a problem.”

In an email to DCist, I.M.P. spokeswoman Audrey Fix Schafer says that a scholarship fund at the University of Maryland has been set up in Burdette’s memory.

Contributions may be made to a scholarship fund established in Josh’s memory at the University of Maryland College Park. The scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student from the Student Entertainment Enterprises (SEE) program. While at UMCP, Josh participated in the SEE program and served as the president for several years. Upon graduation, Josh continued as a mentor to other students in the SEE program.
