Yesterday, mayoral hopeful Tommy Wells took to social media in hopes of winning over voters in the upcoming election.

In a Reddit Ask Me Anything, the Ward 6 Councilmember fielded questions from District Redditors about a variety of hot-button issues, including Large Retailer Accountability Act, the condition of the WMATA, and the M Street bicycle lane fiasco. Wells spent most of the AMA reiterating his stance on most of these issues (he’s against the LRAA, wants to give WMATA riders a seat on the board, and would have put the bike lane in, unaltered), he also spoke about a few issues that he hasn’t talked about much before.

In regards to the D.C. Taxicab commission, he’d like to abolish it completely.

“Great question!
1) I will abolish the DC Taxi Commission. There should be one person in DDOT who works for the Mayor, who is held accountable, along with the Mayor.
2) Every taxi must take credit cards.
3) We need to utilize smartphone technology to build infrastructure to connect taxis to riders. We need to continue to promote things like Uber and Hailo. This creates a more efficient opportunity to use the market to improve the taxi system.”

When asked about the Department of Health’s proposed regulations regarding a 24-hour wait period before getting inked or pierced, he objected:

“This is a great question to end on! The tattoo waiting period proscribed by the government is unnecessarily patronizing.”

He also gave his stance on our Long, National Twerking Nightmare:

“As for twerking, I think the marketplace is the best regulator.”

Still, while Wells did his best to answer all of the questions, there were several key questions that went glaringly unanswered:

  • “Mr. Wells, what’s the best beer-and-shot combo in the city?”
  • “Hi Tommy! Thanks for doing this. Who would you rather fight: 50 duck-sized Vincent Oranges, or one Vincent Orange-sized duck?”
  • “Mr. Wells, what’s the dankest weed you’ve ever smoked?”
  • “Hi Tommy! Thanks for doing this. I’m curious, who do you think would win in a fight, Muriel Bowser or Mario and Luigi?”
  • “Tommy, when the D-Plan plays “Ice of Boston” live, who’s your favorite band member to stage rush?”
  • “Mr. Wells, what’s your favorite Fugazi album?”

I can only speculate, but my guess is he’d probably answer: Red Derby, one Vincent Orange-sized duck, Northern Lights cannabis, Bowser, Eric Axelson, and The Argument.
