Looks like the debate over the Washington football team’s racist name isn’t cooling down anytime in the near future.
As the team looks to move past its devastating loss last night and gear up to take on the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, a group of protesters are planning to rally together at Lambeau Field to remind fans that, yes, the Washington football team’s name is indeed pretty racist and offensive to a lot of people, the Green Bay Press Gazette reports.
Just a few weeks ago, the Oneida Tribe of New York launched a massive radio campaign this season urging NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to speak out against the Washington football team’s racist team name and mascot. Members of the Oneida Tribe of Indians of Wisconsin, as well as the Wisconsin Indian Education Association’s Mascot and Logo Taskforce, are expected to take part in Sunday’s protest.
Although the Oneida Tribe of Indians of Wisconsin is one of the Green Bay Packer’s biggest media sponsors, the Gazette reports, the organization is not sponsoring or organizing the protest in any way. This protest, rather, will be an independent demonstration organized outside of the Tribe.
Of course, Dan Snyder has firmly said that, as long as he’s owner, he’ll “NEVER” change the team’s name, but with all the recent press heating up over the controversial team name and mascot recently, it might be hard to ignore.
Are you listening, Snyder?
