Sweden has been a hotspot for pop music for decades. Some of the best electronic-pop comes out of the country, so it is no wonder recent band Kate Boy has been making waves. The shadowy group is made up of singer Kate Akhurst and instrumentalists Hampus Nordgren Hemlin, Markus Dextegen, and Oskar Sikow Engström. Each member has been in other groups, but this past January Kate Boy released their debut single and it has been making the rounds on a few high profile music blogs. Now out of the shadows of the Internet, the band is on their first U.S. tour with a not-to-be-missed stop tonight at U Street Music Hall.
“The Way We Are” is the third song from the ban, and it is a slippery number sounding if as The Knife has gone full pop. The minimal verses lead to a large fist pumping chorus with Akhurst’s vocals processed to sound more sinister.
Kate Boy play tonight with Joywave and Astr at U Street Music Hall. Tickets are $12.
