This week, the streetcar line on H Street and Benning Road NE got a little realer.

The first Overhead Catenary System (OCS) pole, which will hold the wires for the streetcar, went up on Wednesday. “Work will continue through the month of September and should be done by October,” Dara Ward, a spokeswoman for DDOT and the D.C. Streetcar, said.

At the moment, DDOT cannot provide a definitive answer for when streetcars will begin rolling out. “Our construction teams recently moved to a six-day work week. They are now working on Saturdays,” Ward said. “Because of this move, they are in the middle of revising the schedule.”

Ward said DDOT should be able to provide a more concrete answer by next week.

Speaking of concrete (ugh), here’s a video of the D.C. Streetcar Team pouring “the first section of the track slab at the pocket tracks on Benning Road between 21st and 24th Street.”

It’s really happening, folks!
