Since Wednesday, the District has seen a breakout of gun violence that has left two people dead. At a press conference this afternoon, a Metropolitan Police Department commander said that no arrests have been made in any of the seven shootings.

One shooting occurred just before midnight Wednesday in the 100 block of Pierce Street NW. One person was killed and three were injured. Thursday was a particularly and, according to the MPD, “unusually” violent night with shootings in the 1800 block of 14th Street NW at Riggs Road; the 1400 block of Jonquil Street NW; the 1200 block of Rock Creek Ford Road NW; the 5300 block of Dix Street NE; and the 3900 block of Pennsylvania Avenue SE. There was also a fatal shooting this morning in the 1900 block of Third Street NE.

At the moment, police do not have any complete suspect descriptions for any of the shootings. In the shooting in the 1400 block of Jonquil Street NW, police are looking for a 2012 Dodge Durango with Massachusetts plates that belonged to the victim in that case. Police also say that the victim in that case was critically wounded.

Detectives are currently investigating all the cases and seek the public’s assistance. Police have no reason to believe the cases are connected, but cannot rule it out at this time.
