On the same day that a man opened fire at the Navy Yard in Southeast D.C., another man apparently decided it would be a good day to throw firecrackers at a White House fence.

Initially on Twitter, journalists on the scene reported hearing what sounded like gun fire. But it turned out that the suspect, identified as Alexander Sahagian, was just in the mood to be an idiot.

A Secret Service spokesperson confirmed that the man threw firecrackers at the north fence line of the White house, telling Politico he will likely be charged with throwing a projectile.

Photographer Michael Kandel was on his way to shoot the Navy Yard vigil at Freedom Plaza when he stopped at the White House to take other photos. He observed the suspect being arrested by Secret Service officers and has shared the photos with DCist.
