COMEDY: Underground Comedy DC features a free show every Wednesday night that gathers some of D.C.’s best stand-up comics, peppered by some newbies to the mic. Sources say tonight’s show at Big Hunt (1345 Connecticut Avenue NW) is really good. Doors at 7:30 p.m., show at 8 p.m.
TUNES: Portland Cello Project along with Jolie Holland (who, attention literary nerds, set a WB Yeats poem to music) will play at Gypsy Sally’s (3401 K Street NW) tonight at 8 p.m. $12-15.
DANCE: At Tropicalia (2001 U Street NW) tonight, Cuban hip-hop duo Obsesion will perform at 9 p.m., preceded by a reception (for sponsors) that starts at 7 p.m. After their performance, stay on for an Okayafrica DC Bembe dance party.
FOOD & DRINK: The Source by Wolfgang Puck (575 Pennsylvania Avenue NW) will host a super fancy event called “Duck Duck, Grey Goose” this evening from 7-10 p.m. For $99 per person, you’ll have access to “eight stations with area chefs presenting their own duck renditions, each designed to showcase the versatility of the ingredient,” according to a release. Also, a Grey Goose martini bar and local tap by Virginia-based Port City Brewing Company. Tickets here. And after this vodka conquest of D.C., all we can hope for is that the $15 Mr. Boston Bonanza is close on its heels. Yum.
LE FILM: Avalon Cinema (5612 Connecticut Avenue NW) continues its monthly showcase of movies from the land of bread, wine and cheese, with French Cinematheque, playing The Minister tonight at 8 p.m. The movie’s description reads: “A cabinet minister in charge of national transportation believes himself to be a man of the people. He wants to be good but in order to get anything done he must compromise, cajole, bend, and even betray.” Hmm. Sounds vaguely familiar.
STORYTELLING: Story League’s contest, “Dunces,” will put on its thinking cap tonight at Busboys and Poets (2021 14th Street NW). $10. 9 p.m.
