When D.C.’s Tereu Tereu started, the band was a run-of-the-mill indie rock group. The band’s 2009 debut wore a Dismemberment Plan influence but with all the trappings of bands like Ra Ra Riot. After two line-up shifts, singer/guitarist Ryan Little and drummer Brendan Polmer have finally returned to the scene. Other then a few nods to Travis Morrison, the band is completely different. This is good thing. With 2011’s NW, Tereu Tereu proved they could get messy exploring the post-hardcore sounds of D.C. while still pushing their sound further.

On Tuesday the band will release their second album, Quadrants, and we have a premiere of their track “Cut The Line.” Quadrants blends the nervous energy of NW and adds more tuneful arrangements to the mix. Songs go from harder rock to a more electronic sound. “Cut The Line” sits right between those two sides, mixing spacey tribal electronics with a late period Q and Not U-style rock song.

Tereu Tereu plays with Pet Parade, More Humans, and Bella Russia at the Rock and Roll Hotel on September 28. Tickets are $10.
