MUDHONEY: These days, all grunge revivalists ever want to talk about is Nirvana. Fact is, there were tons of other great grunge bands back in the early 90s, and Mudhoney was probably the most prolific. Since 1988, Mark Arm and co. have been churning out grungy alt-rock albums well past grunge’s expiration date and remains one of the most heavy-hitting live bands around. They play at U Street Music Hall tonight with Cheap Time. 1115 U Street NW, 7 p.m. $25
SHORT FILMS: The D.C. Shorts Film Festival continues to showcase select shorts from around the country, and tonight brings some of the raunchiest films to big screens around the area. Tonight, there’s three different showcases at E Street Cinema, and three other ones at the Angelika Film Center in Fairfax, Va. E Street shows are at 5 p.m., 7, and 9, and the Angelika ones are also at 5 p.m., 7, and 9. E Street Cinema is located at the corner of 11th and E St, NW, and the Angelika Film Center is at 2911 District Ave., Fairfax, Va. Tickets are $12.
STORYTELLING: Part of the 2013 Media Rise Festival, Mortified DC finds adults reciting their most cringe-worthy diary entries, poems, love letters, lyrics, locker notes, and more from their teenage years. It will be like a John Hughes movie, except without the happy endings! Takes place at The Dunes, 1402 Meridian Place NW, 8 p.m. $12.
