In the past couple of years, queer rap has become less underground, and one of the artists leading the charges is Khalif Diof, better known as Le1f. Le1f’s flow is hypnotic, and with each new mixtape he proves more and more ambitious. Le1f is playing U Street Music Hall tonight and his live show is exciting and unpredictable. He has already released the slick Fly Zone mixtape earlier this year, but last week he dropped a new one calledTree House. Tree House is less out there than his previous efforts, going for more hard hitting quotable street style. “Damn Son” is the taps’ defacto single, and it is one of the most straightforward boast tracks Le1f has produced. Shy Guy’s beat is spacious leaving Le1f’s deep voice and syncopated flows to fill in the air.

Le1f plays tonight with Antwon at U Street Music Hall. Tickets are $15.
