SCIENCE: DC Science Cafe explores Surfaces: A Story of a Million Skins, a book by emeritus professor of history Joseph Amato, tonight at Busboys and Poets (5th and K Streets NW). In the book, Amato discusses the interaction of human surfaces (skin, fingers, tongues) “with the diversity of surfaces in the world.” 6:30-8:30 p.m. Free.

TREASURE HUNT: It’s Mustache Monday at the Mansion on O Street (2020 O Street NW). Come out for beer, chips and dip, popcorn, and a treasure hunt. 5:30-8 p.m. $30.

MUSIC: Stars play the 9:30 Club (815 V Street NW) this evening with High Highs. 7 p.m. $25.

TUESDAY: The Last Resort Comedy Show at Old Dominion Brewhouse (1219 9th Street NW) this Tuesday will feature host Max Rosenblum along with a lineup of D.C. comedians. 9:00-10:30 p.m. Free.

WEDNESDAY: This Wednesday’s Create at the Corcoran Happy Hour is going digital, focusing on “Sketching with the iPad.” Attendees will “learn about form, composition, color, and other traditional studio concepts while sketching masterpieces included in the Corcoran’s renowned pre-1945 American paintings and sculpture collection.” Only requirement? You must bring your own ipad or touchscreen device. 6:30 p.m. $25 members, $30 non-members.

THURSDAY: Phillips After 5 is celebrating Oktoberfest with German art, short German language lessons, German folk dance, German food and drinks, and German music at the Phillips Collection (1600 21st Street NW) this Thursday. 5-8:30 p.m. $12 general admission, $10 students and those 62 and older.

FRIDAY: There are two options for outdoor moving watching this Friday: Best In Show at the Outdoor Movie Night at Lamont Park (7:15 p.m., free) and Caddy Shack at the Union Market Drive-In (8 p.m., free).

SATURDAY: The 7th annual Columbia Heights Day takes place at Harriet Tubman Elementary Field (11th and Kenyon Streets NW) this Saturday, complete with music, food trucks, t-shirt screen printing, vendors, a D.C. trivia contest, a Momo eating contest, and more. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Free.
