Photo by photographynatalia.Metro put out a press release this morning, reminding riders that the system will be open in the event of a federal government shut down (which is looking pretty likely).
Metro is not a federal entity and would remain open during any government shutdown. Trains and buses will operate on regular schedules, and the system will open and close at regular times.
However, if the shutdown lasts several days and “results in significantly lower ridership,” the size of the trains may be reduced.
For example, we may operate more 6-car trains and fewer 8-car trains, because 8-car trains might not be necessary. We will communicate these changes publicly if any such decision is made.
The same goes for MARC trains.
The MARC Train Service will not be impacted by the potential Federal Government shutdown on October 1. All trains will operate as scheduled.
In the event of a prolonged shutdown, MARC management may revisit the issue of potentially operating a reduced schedule after evaluating ridership figures.
Now all federal government employees will need is somewhere to go to.
