A coalition of groups and individuals disturbed by the surveillance reach of the National Security Agency will hold a rally in D.C. in late October.

Stop Watching Us, whose members include the ACLU, Mozilla and Pentagon Papers whistleblower Daniel Ellsburg, says the Rally Against Mass Surveillance will be the largest of its kind.

Right now the NSA is spying on everyone’s personal communications, and they’re operating without any meaningful oversight. Since the Snowden leaks started, more than 569,000 people from all walks of life have signed the StopWatching.us petition telling the U.S. Congress that we want them to rein in the NSA.

On October 26th, the 12th anniversary of the signing of the US Patriot Act, we’re taking the next step and holding the largest rally yet against NSA surveillance. We’ll be handing the half-million petitions to Congress to remind them that they work for us — and we won’t tolerate mass surveillance any longer.

Over 572,000 people have co-signed a letter by Stop Watching Us, calling on Congress to “halt this surveillance and provide a full public accounting of the NSA’s and the FBI’s data collection programs.” The group is trying to raise $30,000 to subsidize bus fare for people who want to come to the rally, but can’t afford to do so.

We know there are thousands of people who would love to be at the rally, but don’t have a way to get to DC on their own. With your support we can subsidize bus tickets and buses from cities and colleges in the area. The more we raise, the bigger the rally, the bigger the impact.
