Legendary comedienne Carol Burnett was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at a Kennedy Center ceremony last night that was, in a word, hilarious. The women Burnett inspired, from her Carol Burnett Show co-star Vicki Lawrence to Tina Fey, gave very funny tributes, Tony Bennett sang “The Way You Look Tonight” and Julie Andrews was Julie Andrews.
It’s hard to encapsulate the over two hour ceremony, but here’s an attempt to anyway through some of the funniest jokes.

Tina Fey. (Photo by Kris Connor/Getty Images)Tina Fey: “We’re here tonight to celebrate the first lady of American comedy, Ted Cruz.”
Tim Conway: “Vicki [Lawrence] and I go to every city where Carol is being honored. This is our sixth city this week.”
Burnett’s assistant Roz Doser (a.k.a. Amy Poehler) accompanied by five dogs: “I’m dangerously allergic to dogs. This Carol describes as neither here nor there.”
Martin Short: “Tonight is when the one percent come together to honor one of their own.”
“I remember when I got my Mark Twain Prize. It feels like five years from now.”
“Donald [Trump] only makes us laugh because he looks like a bouncer in a lesbian bar.”
Bruce Vilanch: “Hello, I’m Honey Boo Boo.”
Maya Rudolph, who just had her fourth baby: “Did I mention I didn’t sleep last night? I have four small children. Or five.”
Carol Burnett: “This is very encouraging. It was a long time coming, but I understand because there are so many people funnier than I am, especially here in Washington.”
The ceremony will air on PBS on November 24.
