Guitarist Blake Mills is a founding member of rootsy folk-rock band Dawes, as well as Fiona Apple’s right hand man. While he has been a guitarist for many artists, including Jenny Lewis, Conor Oberst and the Dixie Chicks, Mills is also a solo artist who released the underrated debut album, Break Mirrors, in 2010. Currently the singer-songwriter is on tour with Apple as part of the “Anything We Want Tour,” where both artists take the stage performing songs from each other’s discographies. Much has been said about the tour, as well as Apple’s health, but one thing that is unquestionable is Mill’s skilled playing. “Hey Lover” is cool alt-country anthem from Break Horses. The song shares similar DNA with alt-rock icons Wilco, but employs a breezy California vibe.
Blake Mills plays with Fiona Apple tonight and tomorrow at the Lincoln Theatre. Tickets are sold-out tonight, but are $55 tomorrow.
