The Atlanta, GA five piece Mood Rings have evolved over a series of EP’s, leaving the bedroom-like intimacy of their recordings behind, and putting glossed-up muscle behind their dream-pop sound. Like Wild Nothing and Beach Fossils before them, Mood Rings make music to fit certain, uh, moods—like grey skies or night drives. Mood Ring’s 2013 full-length debut, VPI Harmony borrows from the ’80s while touching on both the airier sound of Kate Bush mixed with the darker sounds of The Cure.

“The Line” is a perfect starting point for Mood Rings. The synths are so light, they float like balloons. Singer Will Fussell’s soft vocals blend seamlessly into the beat, yet maintain a natural, dangerous sexiness in spots.

Mood Rings play tonight with Sacco and Cults at the Black Cat. Tickets are 18 Adv., $20 at the door.
