On Halloween, a man walking along the Metropolitan Branch Trail at the 600 block of Rhode Island Avenue NE was attacked and severely injured by a group of people.
A Metropolitan Police Department public information officer told DCist that on Thursday, October 31, a man in his fifties was attacked at around 9:15 p.m. About ten suspects approached the victim, pushed him to the ground, and began punching him around the face and head. The Post reports that “the victim said he was on his cellphone when he heard a man say, ‘Let’s get him.”
While the victim was transported to the hospital for serious injuries, the PIO could not update us on his condition.
Of course, this is just the latest in a string of violent attacks on the Metropolitan Branch Trail. In June, a cyclist was beaten by a group of a dozen or so juveniles, and last year, a man was robbed and shot while walking along the trail. There have also been many robberies along the trail.
