Melt-Banana has been blowing out eardrums since 1993. The Japanese punks blur the lines between hardcore, punk, grindcore and noise effortlessly. The core trio has remained the same with the band switching out drums as they go. Fetch, the band’s seventh studio record, comes six years after the band’s last album Bambi’s Dilemma. While Melt-Banana are known uncompromising, Fetch is their most accessible record, at least in comparison to the band’s discography. “The Hive” is a two minute blast of Ichirou Agata’s aggressive guitars, mixed with Yasuko Onuki’s sugar-rush vocals. The track starts off fast and loud but toward the end the track gets digitally cut up like remix.
Melt- Banana play tonight with Brain Tentacles at the Black Cat. Tickets are $15 Adv/ $18 Doors.
