Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.)

Today in conservative media news: FishbowlDC’s former editor, the ever-controversial Betsy Rothstein, will continue her diatribe against D.C. media at The Daily Caller, while Breitbart.com announced they’re picking up Rand Paul as a columnist after he was dumped The Washington Times following allegations of plagiarism.

Politico reports that Rothstein will start at The Daily Caller on Monday, where she’ll be overseeing a new column called “The Mirror.” The column will cover basically the same stuff as FishbowlDC: D.C. media, gossip, and politics. And from the sound of it, it seems like the blog won’t censor any of Rothstein’s trademark insufferable bite: The tagline reads “reflections of a self-obsessed city.”

The Daily Caller’s editor-in-chief Tucker Carlson told Politico that he has “no doubt” she’ll keep attacking personalities in the area. “I have no doubt she’ll go after many people I know and like, so I’m preparing myself,” Carlson said. “But I think she’s a great reporter and I love her personally and I think she’s one of the greatest people I know.” Politico also reported that “Rothstein’s new blog promises to be no less controversial than her last. It will come with an NC-17 rating, which she described as a humorous warning ‘to keep kindergartners away.”

Sounds lovely.

And no less than twenty-four hours after The Washington Times ended their relationship with Kentucky Senator Rand Paul after he was accused of plagiarism, conservative news site Breitbart.com picked up his column. Slate’s Dave Weigel spoke to Steve Bannon, executive chairman of Breitbart News Network, about the acquisition:

“We will provide editorial support that the Washington Times didn’t,” wrote Bannon in an email. (I’ve lightly edited his response to remove thumb-type-ese. “To me what’s important is look at what he was trying to get across at Liberty [University]. I think the conservative media doesn’t understand how powerful his understanding of culture up river from politics really is. Christie just another politician: You may love him or not but it doesn’t really mean anything. Paul and the liberty movement are much different. Why? Because it can reach the Dave Weigels of the world, and that means victory in the long term. The easy stuff of editorial support is a no brainer.”

And in the official announcement on Breitbart.com, there was no mention of the plagiarism scandal.
