A woman was struck by a car and killed outside the Marine Barracks this morning.
A Metropolitan Police Department public information officer said the incident occurred at 8th and I Streets SE shortly before 11 a.m. He could not provide the woman’s identity or the number of pedestrian fatalities in D.C. so far this year. The driver of the vehicle stayed on the scene.
Fox 5’s Paul Wagner reports that the woman worked in the cafeteria at the Barracks. Request for comment from a Marine Barracks spokesperson was not immediately returned.
At least eight pedestrians have been killed this year, based on news reports. D.C.’s pedestrian fatality rate is higher than the national average, leaving the city eligible for federal improvement funds.
