DRINKS: D.C. Cocktail Week continues because there’s no way you’ve hit up every participating restaurant/bar yet. To make this a little more interesting, Washington City Paper has created this Cocktail Week map of participating places, so you can complete a neighborhood “cocktail” trail and win prizes. D.C. Cocktail week continues until November 18 and you can see a detailed list of participating restaurants and all necessary details here.
REVENGE OF THE SYNTH: L.A.-based synth-pop musician, Pat Grossi, A.K.A. Active Child, plays the kind of atmospheric, New Wave music that could double as the score for a sweeping sci-fi epic. It’s cinematic in nature, but nonetheless extremely catchy and unique. With a vibrating falsetto voice, and slow-burning electronic soundscapes combined with a pulsating light show, Active Child puts on a show that will cause a sensory overload in the best kind of way. JMSN opens the show. Doors at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased here.
DESTROYER: Destroyer frontman Dan Bejar is known for his particular brand of skittish folk-pop, but on the band’s last record, 2011’s Kaputt , it was clear that Bejar had abandon his trademark art-folk sound for something more experimental. The album is a unique blend of synthy soundscapes and dancey melodies, combined with Bejar’s stark lyrics. The band performs tonight at Sixth & I with Pink Mountaintops. Show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $22 and can be bought here.
HIP HOP: There’s a stellar showing of local and national hip hop talent at the Howard Theatre tonight with Memphis-based rapper Yo Gotti topping the bill along with Ca$h Out, Shy Glizzy, and Zed Zilla. Show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $27. You can buy them here.
