Fat Trel—D.C.’s hip-hop merry prankster—is in some hot water after flaking out of an allegedly contracted performance at Woodrow Wilson High School’s homecoming dance last Saturday.
According to the high school’s newspaper, The Wilson Beacon, Trel was booked by the school’s student government association to perform live at their annual homecoming dance. But it became clear that he wasn’t going to show after the SGA tried to get in touch with him about the soundcheck and Trel’s manager asked if they could move the event:
The situation began to unfold Friday afternoon, when the SGA and DaSilva called Fat Trel’s management to discuss soundcheck logistics. Trel’s manager asked if it would be possible to move the event to another day, prompting the SGA to threaten a lawsuit if Trel did not perform, citing the contract Trel signed and the $2,000 advance he received.
Fortunately, Wilson’s Homecoming dance was saved by another rising D.C. hip hop star, Shy Glizzy, who agreed at 3 a.m. the morning of the dance to perform in Trel’s place. No one from Wilson High School or their SGA heard from Trel or his management after Friday night, and Trel reportedly performed at the University of North Carolina the night he was supposed to perform at Wilson High School instead.

Now that Wilson High School’s $2,000 deposit for Trel has gone to waste, the school might be seeking some legal ramifications. But according to Ajibade DaSilva, Wilson’s Business Manager, they’re waiting for “the emotions of it all to pass before determining the grounds for the suit.”
When asked to comment on widespread rumors of a lawsuit, DaSilva said that he was not planning to “rush into” litigation and would wait for “the emotions of it all” to pass before determining the grounds for the suit. DaSilva concluded by saying that, as D.C. is the “flakey” rapper’s local fanbase, “students can choose whether to consume, or not to consume [Mr. Trel’s music]… But we will be seeking restitution in some way.”
A request for comment from Fat Trel’s management was not immediately returned.
