LivingSocial just can’t catch a break these days.
The daily deals company is facing another tough financial blow this week as its website and mobile site have been down since yesterday. The Post reports that the site went down about noon on yesterday, and still isn’t back up yet. According to a LivingSocial spokeswoman, “there is no indication the outage was caused by external factors, such as a cyber attack, or that customer and merchant information was compromised.”
Recently, LivingSocial found itself in hot water after a “7 Deadly Sins Halloween Party” was criticized when the “Greed Room” inappropriately used dreidels as decorations. Last April, LivingSocial’s customer database was hacked, resulting in a large sales drop and was partially blamed for the company’s struggle for profitability. It’s too soon to tell how badly this current Web site outage is affecting LivingSocial financially, each minute the site is down is a big revenue loss for the company, as they can’t sell any deals.
Here’s the memo about the situation that LivingSocial posted on their blog:
As you probably know by now, our website and mobile app went down on Tuesday afternoon. Throughout the night, our teams have been working nonstop to address the issue and attempt to ensure that it never happens again. We have isolated the technical issue and are pushing forward to have the site up and running again as soon as possible.
We can let you know now that it is the result of an internal issue, and there is nothing to indicate that this was the result of any external factors. Also, there is nothing that leads us to think that any consumer or merchant data, or financial information has been compromised.
In the meantime we have delayed email distribution and new feature promotions until the site has returned to service and we have revised promotion schedules to accommodate merchants for the disruption.
We apologize to our consumers and our merchants for any inconvenience.
Merchants – please contact your representatives with any questions on 877-556-4078 and we will work with you to resolve any outstanding issues.
Customers – please contact our customer service department directly at 877-521-4191 with any questions.
