Singer LIZ is like a mosquito wrapped in amber that broke out last year. Her styling of late 90s early 00s pop would’ve been massive on TRL and, now with pop going full on EDM and Dr. Luke-ified, it sounds like a revelation. LIZ blurs the line between Aaliyah, Britney Spear, and various one-hit wonder female British pop groups. Signed to Mad Decent sub level Jefferee’s, LIZ has released a couple of singles and is prepping a new EP set for release soon. The first single, “Stop Me Cold,” is an R&B number that wouldn’t have sounded out of place in 1999. The track produced by Picard Bro’s and Djemba Djemba has the quirks of faster All Saints tracks (remember them?) while mining some late period Janet Jackson.

LIZ plays tomorrow night with Kitten and Charli XCX at U Street Music Hall. Tickets are $20.
