FRIDAY

WINE: Celebrate Beaujolais and get wine drunk tonight at the French Embassy during their Beaujolais and Beyond event. The party celebrates the annual wine harvest in France, and is also a good reminder that wine drunk is the best kind of drunk. COMEDY: The comedy nerds behind the “Don’t Block The Box Comedy Show” at Wonderland Ballroom are back with their pre-Thanksgiving show. This time, you’ll enjoy the comic stylings of Matt Koff (Comedy Central’s “Adam DeVine’s House Party”, writer on “The Daily Show”, has written for “The Onion News Network”, UCB Theater), Russ Green (Homegrown Hilarity), Mikey Larrick (State Theater), and Jesse Thomas (Richmond Funny Bone). And it’s all hosted by Reggie Melbrough (PBS). ART PARTY: ‘Tis the season…for art. Artfête is having its annual open house and holiday party, kicking off the holiday season 2D/3D exhibits, a holiday ceramics and jewelry sale, a live steamroller printing, live music from Orquesta Tropikiimba, food and drinks, artist demonstrations, and more. DONUT CRAWL: In the wise words of Homer Simpson: “Mmm, doughnuts.” Stuff your face on the D.C. Donut Crawl this Saturday, beginning at Brightwood’s Chocolate Crust (5830 Georgia Avenue NW), then continuing on to GBD, Astro Donuts and Fried Chicken, and District Doughnut. The crawl will be by bike, so at least a few calories will be burned. 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Registration required, donuts priced individually. — Lis Grant

MORE COMEDY: The Capital City Showcase combines some of the areas best comedians, musicians, and performing artists into one wild variety show. This showcase will feature rock band Charles the Hammer, comedian Stavros Halkias, comedian Jeff Hysen, musician Don Kim, comedian Becca Steinhoff, and comedian Brandon Wardell. FLECK: Bela Fleck elevated the banjo to new heights through his work with the groundbreaking Flecktones, moving effortlessly between jazz, bluegrass and international sounds. AFROFUNK: The 12-piece Chopteeth Afrofunk Big Band has been the D.C. area’s premiere afrobeat group for a number of years, having now won ten WAMMIES. BOOGIE: Combining the infectious rhythms of South Asian bhangra music with the horn driven power of a New Orleans brass band, Red Baraat is rightfully building a reputation as one of the best live bands on the concert circuit. PUNK RAWK: Earlier this week, we premiered a new music video for local hardcore quartet, Joy Buttons. That song comes from their debut E.P., which they’ll be releasing at a special E.P. release show tonight at the Black Cat’s backstage.
