As if the already-crowded Metro buses couldn’t get any worse, a bunch of dance-party enthusiasts will invade one to partake in a Silent Disco on November 30th.
The event, dubbed “Public Danceportation: Silent Disco on the Metrobus,” will meet at an undisclosed location near the Takoma Metro stop at approximately 4:30 p.m. Participants will load onto a Metro bus at 5:15 p.m., where they’ll put on headphones and cut rug on the moving vehicle. The event’s page says it “will blow people’s minds,” but the reality is, most people will probably just be weirded out and/or annoyed.
Here are some more details:
Please no dancing in/on metro seats or on top of Metrobus driver, out of respect Metrobus patrons and to avoid any conflict with law enforcement. If a Metrobus employee gives you instructions at any point, please comply immediately, do not argue.
Right now, event organizers are asking that people RSVP here so that they can have a better idea of how many will be participating and will need headphones. They’re also asking people “pay what they can” to help fund the purchase of said headphones. The whole thing will last until 7 p.m., so it may be best to avoid taking a Metro bus then, unless you like your commute with a bus full of people dancing in silence. And no, believe or not, this is not a Portlandia sketch.
