Another deadline is looming for D.C. cab drivers.
By December 1, all cabs are required to have a console installed in the vehicle’s backseat where credit cards can be swiped. The monitors will also display advertisements, public service announcements and weather reports.
D.C. Taxicab Commission spokesperson Neville Waters says there have been “several requests” from drivers for a deadline extension. A response to the drivers will be released this week. Waters said DCTC Chairman Ron Linton will appear on WPFW 89.3 FM’s Community Watch & Comment tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. and may discuss it then. He will also be taking caller questions.
There haven’t been any reports of impoundments over the credit card readers or dome lights since at least 25 cabs were ticketed and impounded from November 1 to 3, Waters said.
Update: Waters says via email that no extensions will be granted.
