A grinch or group of grinches broke into a Salvation Army center in Southeast D.C. yesterday and stole Red Kettle donations.
At approximately 5 a.m. Sunday, the grinch or grinches broke into the Salvation Army Solomon G. Brown Corps Community Center at 2300 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue SE. There, several days of donations generated through the Red Kettle program was stolen, according to a release. The amount? At least $10,000. One unknown person also threatened a security guard with a knife.
“The Salvation Army is grateful the on-duty security officer at Solomon G. Brown was unharmed during this incident, ” Maj. Lewis Reckline, Commander of The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command, said in a statement. “We are praying for the suspect(s) involved. We hope all of the money taken will be returned. These were funds donated by the community to help locally struggling families who reside in Southeast D.C.”
