Dischord’s legacy still rules the D.C. scene, and while the label’s new releases are few and far between, each one has been pretty stellar. Alarms & Controls is one of the label’s newest acts, but the members all share a lengthy history in the scene. Started by ex-Circus Lupus/Monorchid guitarist Chris Hamley and drummer Vin Novara (The Crownhate Ruin) with the addition of bassist Michel Honch, Alarms & Controls released a single last year and just got around to releasing their debut album, Clovis Points, late last month. Fans of Circus Lupus will immediately recognize the wiry, calculated guitar riffs that veer into math-rock territory that dominate Alarms & Controls’ songs. The band has a nervous energy that is fleshed out by Novara’s expert drumming and Honch’s funky bass lines. “Khmer Avatar” is a track from the band’s latest album, recorded by D.C. mainstay J. Robbins. The track is a three-minute blast recalling the ’90s.

Alarms & Controls play tomorrow night with Soccer Team and Talk It at the Black Cat. Tickets are $10.
