The man who stole an ambulance while under the influence of PCP pleaded guilty today in D.C. Superior Court.
Darren Etheredge admitted to stealing the ambulance from the 200 block of Florida Avenue NE in late July. Etheredge, also listed in court documents as Darren Ethedge, was being transported by another ambulance when it was involved in an accident. He drove the ambulance for about seven blocks before he was arrested by police.
He also admitted to a September crime where he assaulted a woman and two police officers while high on PCP. According to the government’s evidence, Etheredge was mumbling incoherently during the crime, which he was linked to through a MetroAccess card.
According to his attorney, Etheredge was released from a 30-day rehabilitation program in October and has not tested positive for drugs since then. He is now being tested twice a week.
Etheredge waived his right to trial as part of a plea agreement. He will be sentenced on February 14.
