Need something Christmas-y to do tonight? Head to Union Station for the lighting of the Norwegian Christmas tree.
In honor of Norwegian artist Edvard Munch, this year’s tree will be Scream-themed. Because nothing says the holidays quite like yelling. In addition to the Scream ornaments, there are also miniature American and Norwegian flags.
Now for a little background:
The Christmas tree at Union Station is an annual gift from the Royal Norwegian Embassy to the people of Washington, D.C. as a symbol of friendship between the United States and Norway. It also expresses Norway’s gratitude for assistance received from the United States during and after World War II.
The ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. tonight. Santa Claus will be present, cookies and gløgg will be given out, and carols will be sung.
Thanks, people of Norway for the enormous plastic Christmas tree decorated with little cutouts of Munsch’s “Scream!” pic.twitter.com/cG7R5esZnf
