PHOTOGRAPHY: This past June, the annual DCist Exposed photography show set out on its own as Exposed DC. Under the leadership of former DCist staff members Heather Goss, James Calder, and Meaghan Gay, the newly independent photography showcase kicks off its 2014 contest tonight with a launch party at Bluejacket Brewery (300 Tingey Street SE). Come out to learn how to submit your photos, chat with former winners, and make new photographer friends. 6-8 p.m.

DANCE: Ballet Hispanico dances to a live musical performance by D.C. salsa band Timba Street on the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage (2700 F Street NW) this evening. Free salsa dance lessons start at 5 p.m., show starts at 6 p.m. Free.

FILM: The Corcoran’s (500 Seventeenth Street NW) three-part Alex Prager Selects Film Series begins this evening with a screening of The Red Shoes. 7 p.m. $5.

COMEDY: Chicago’s Second City sketch comedy crew comes to the National Museum of Natural History’s Baird Auditorium (10th & Constitution Avenue NW) tonight to perform their Nut-Cracking Holiday Revue. Two performances: 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. $25.
