Today is International Cheetah Day, which you of course already know. To celebrate, here are photos of cheetah cubs recently born at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute.
Here’s information on the cubs, via the National Zoo.
First-time mother Miti birthed a litter of seven cubs November 12. Six of her cubs survived—five female and one male. Experienced mother Ally gave birth to a litter of four cubs November 26. Animal care staff have not fully examined Ally’s cubs yet but both litters are doing well. For now, staff are watching the cheetah mothers bond with their cubs via closed-circuit webcams in their enclosures.
The cuteness of cheetah cubs is well–documented and universally agreed upon. The National Zoo is currently home to five cheetahs (Draco, Granger, Zabini, Carmelita and Justin) after the death of Tumai this summer. While that last piece of information is sad, it’s impossible to stay blue when there’s a photo of a cheetah cub waving in the world.
