CRAFTS: Craft up some gifts for the holidays at the Mingle at the Museum: A DIY Holiday event at the S. Dillon Ripley Center (1100 Jefferson Drive SW) this Friday. Instructors will help you make cards (using stamps, calligraphy, and collage), origami ornaments, and decorate cookies. Smithsonian Program Manager Daniel Gifford will also showcase 100-year old holiday postcards. Members $25 in advance, $30 at the door. DANCE: Laterna Magika, the New Stage of the National Theatre Prague, the Václav Havel Library Foundation, Embassy of the Czech Republic, Laboratory for Global Performance and Politics, and the Davis Performing Arts Center present Anticodes—a multimedia dance theatre production inspired by the late Czech president Václav Havel’s collection of experimental poetry. The show will begin with a discussion about Havel and his artistic and political legacy, and will feature a post-show discussion. Event is happening in the Gonda Theatre at the Davis Performing Arts Center. 37th and O Streets, NW. Free, but tickets required.
HOLIDAY MARKET: The Heurich House Museum in Dupont is opening its doors for its annual open house holiday market this evening, from 4 p.m. to 8. You can take a self-guided tour of the infamous mansion of D.C.’s most famous brewmaster of yesteryear, while browsing a “carefully curated collection of local artisans.” This is a Made In D.C. ART SALE: Family and Friends of Incarcerated People are holding their fifth annual Cheap Art Sale at La Casa in Mt. Pleasant. Artist from across the city will show and sell original works of art, with half or more of all the proceeds going towards the Family and Friends of Incarcerated People. CRAFT MARKET: Love unique, handmade gifts but don’t have a crafty bone in your body? Shop Grump, a local holiday craft show, at Artisphere (1101 Wilson Boulevard Arlington VA) this Saturday. ART SALE: The Corcoran College of Art + Design is hosting Off The Walls, its annual college art sale. Shop for jewelry, wearable art, ceramics, and other fine arts all created by the Corcoran’s best and brightest—including students, alums, faculty, and staff. CHORAL CONCERT: NIH Community Chorus and the East Avenue Ensemble are presenting a free choral concert at Saint Mark Presbyterian Church in North Bethesda. The concert “will feature timeless holiday music from the sacred to the secular. In addition to Lauridsen’s O Magnum Mysterium, the Chorus will perform Mendelssohn’s There shall a star come out of Jacob, Pinkham’s Christmas Cantata, Ray Charles’ arrangement of Jingle Bells, and more.” Starts at 7:30 p.m. More info available here.
