Today in OK, whatever: A D.C. food truck will begin accepting payment by Bitcoin tomorrow.
As Young and Hungry first reported, the Peruvian Brothers food truck — run by owners Giuseppe and Mario Lanzone who happen to be friends with Bitcoin investors, Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss — will “become the first mobile vendor in the nation’s capital to accept the cutting edge of cryptocurrency.” Bitcoins will be accepted through the iPhone app Bitpay and the scanning of a QR code.
When accepting a payment using Bitcoin, Peruvian Brothers has the option to transfer the USD amount directly to their bank account to keep a seamless line of cash flow or keep their Bitcoins as an investment that they can later cash in depending on the ever-fluctuating value of the digital currency.
The Lanzones friendship with the Winklevoss twins, of Allegedly Getting Screwed By Mark Zukerberg fame, led them to accept the digital currency, according to a press release.
A smart lead from Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, Giuseppe’s Olympic Rowing teammates and close friends with a knack for knowing what’s hot in the tech world, sent PB back to the drawing room to implement the latest craze in digital currency. With their tech-savvy guidance, Peruvian Brothers are rolling out an easy vending solution that offers lower payment processing and more secure transactions.
A meal of one pan con chicharron, an empanda de pollo, an order of alfajores and an Inca Kola will set you back $18 or 2.064 percent of one Bitcoin at this very moment. By tomorrow? Who knows.
