The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm doom watch, predicting a potential for five inches or more of snow in the area tomorrow.

The watch, in effect from late night to tomorrow afternoon, predicts a potential for heavy snow: “The precipitation may start as a period of sleet, especially south of Interstate 66 in Virginia, the District of Columbia and U.S. Route 50 in Maryland.” The timing of the winter weather could occur during the morning rush hour: “The snow will likely impact the morning rush Tuesday with the potential for accumulation rates of one to two inches per hour for a two-to-four hour period from daybreak to mid-to-late morning.”

But hold the phone, snow lovers/haters. Not every forecaster thinks D.C. is going to become a winter wonderland/hellscape tomorrow. The Capital Weather Gang believes the NWS watch is “too aggressive” and the probability for five inches or more of snow is low. Accuweather predicts two to four inches of snow.

Update: The National Weather Service has now issued a winter weather advisory for the area from 3 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday. They’ve reduced their snow prediction from five or more inches to between three to five inches.
