A Metropolitan Police Department officer under investigation for allegedly running a teenage prostitution ring has been arrested on pandering charges.

According to a press release, MPD obtained an arrest warrant for Officer Linwood Barnhill, Jr. yesterday and he was arrested this morning in Southeast D.C. He’s being charged with two counts of pandering of a minor. Barnhill joined the MPD in 1989, but has not been on full duty since September of last year.

Last week, police investigated Barnhill’s apartment and found a 16-year-old girl who was reported missing by her family. According to the search warrant filed, the girl was one of several girls Barnhill was allegedly prostituting.

In a separate and unrelated incident, an MPD officer accused of taking nude photos of a teen girl died last night after being pulled from the Potomac River.

In a statement, Police Chief Cathy Lanier said “as disheartening as it is to have members of this department involved in this type of conduct, I take solace in knowing that it was members of this department who worked tirelessly to ensure that they were brought to justice.”
