A D.C. police officer charged with production of child pornography was pronounced dead last night after being pulled from the Potomac River.

A release from the Metropolitan Police Department says U.S. Park Police received a 911 call about a man in the water near Hains Point around 8:15 p.m. An officer found an empty car with clothing inside nearby. Dive teams located the accused officer, Marc Washington, and he was taken to a local hospital, where Washington was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

Washington was released from jail Monday under orders he wear an ankle monitor and be confined to his father’s Maryland home. Prosecutors argued against his release. He was arrested last week, accused of visiting the home of a 15-year-old girl who had been missing and taking nude photos of her. The girl’s family planned to sue Washington and the city.
