Councilmember and mayoral candidate Jack Evans will officiate his first same-sex wedding tomorrow.

The Ward 2 politician will bind together (in love!) John Lazar and Ted Jarvis, Logan Circle residents Evans has known since 2007. The wedding, which will take place at Lazar’s home, is being touted by Evans’ campaign for mayor.

“We are honored to have Jack officiate at our marriage, and it’s so appropriate since he has been politically supportive of our community for 22 years,” Lazar, co-chair of the LGBTQ Campaign Committee for Jack Evans, said in a release. Evans voted in favor of the Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Equality Amendment Act in 2009, which granted same-sex couples the right to wed in D.C.

Mayor Vince Gray, who was then Council chair, also voted in favor of the bill, as did possible and declared mayoral candidates Councilmembers Muriel Bowser (D-Ward 4), David A. Catania (I-At Large) and Tommy Wells (D-Ward 6).

Gray officiated a wedding between two grooms at the Wilson Building earlier this year. Councilmember Marion Barry (D-Ward 8), who voted against marriage equality in 2009 because he is a “politician who is moral,” told the City Paper in August he’s looking for a gay couple to marry.
